The UFC has released a new trailer promoting UFC 133 featuring Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Rich Franklin. It's interesting that the Franklin vs. Nogueira fight is being pushed as the co-headliner. Many had expected Vitor Belfort and Yoshihiro Akiyama to have that slot as Belfort fought for the title at UFC 126 and Akiyama is a fan favorite.
The card will be the promotion's second trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. UFC 101 marked the UFC's debut in The City of Brotherly Love. That event saw then lightweight champion defend his belt against Kenny Florian. There will be no title fight this time. Sorry, Philly.
Originally UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones had been expected to face Rashad Evans in the headliner, but Jones had to pull out of the fight due to a thumb injury. That was a disappointment to fans as Jones and Evans had built up quite a head of steam for the fight as they were former friends and teammates who quickly became bitter enemies once they agreed to face each other.
Rashad Evans vs Phil Davis is a very comparable match on paper, but has significantly less fan appeal as Davis, despite his undefeated record is relatively unknown to fans.
