Gilbert Melendez is an American fighter trained by Cesar Gracie alongside teammates Nate and Nick Diaz, and Jake Shields. He is a former WEC lightweight champion and three-time Strikeforce champion. At "Strikeforce: Nashville," he defeated Japanese lightweight Shinya Aoki in a dominant decision. Melendez was also involved in a post-fight brawl with Jason "Mayhem" Miller at the end the same show.
