A hard hitting knockout artist, Thiago Alves trains with American Top Team in Florida. Alves holds wins over Matt Hughes, Josh Koscheck, and Karo Parisyan among others. He challenged Georges St. Pierre for the UFC Welterweight title at UFC 100, but lost a decision. Alves is very large for the welterweight division, and has failed to make weight for major fights. In 2010 he was diagnosed with a brain malformation, but has since made a full recovery.
