Bellator MMA is the world’s largest tournament based Mixed Martial Arts organization and launched in 2009. Headquartered in Newport Beach, California, the company was formed in 2008 by Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. Its first "Season" featured eight-man title tournaments in four divisions: Middleweight, Welterweight, Lightweight and Featherweight. Tournament winners are declared the No. 1 contender in their respective weight class and awarded a check for $100,000 and a shot at the reigning Bellator champion.
After being shown on MTV2 for nearly three years, Bellator's weekly events now air live Thursday nights on Spike TV.
