12:15pm EDT UPDATE
Looking at the radar this early afternoon it is much improved than what it was this morning. The radar continues to show rain stretching from Philadelphia to Baltimore and Washington D.C. but this area of precipitation is moving north-northeast. This will keep the bulk of the rain to the west for most of the race.

We start the race with temperatures near 70, mostly cloudy some sunshine. We get to halfway without any rain but beyond halfway we could see an isolated shower or thunderstorm but likelihood is low. Will keep you updated through the race.

Previous Discussion
If one were to look at the radar this morning they would not like what they see. There appears to be an impressive area of showers just to the west and southwest of Dover this morning. Although it may look impressive over half of the rain is evaporating before it reaches the surface.

Clouds will be around a good part of the day with any sunshine being very limited. Temperatures will be cooler than yesterday but warmer than I expected. I am going to go with a high temperature later this afternoon of 75.

As far as the rain for this morning and afternoon this is where things get tricky. Non of the models or even other weather outlets have had a good handle on this system. Most of the week today looked very dry up until 24 hours ago, but now we have to talk about rain and the chance of a few showers passing near or over Dover.

My overall though on today is we start this race dry with clouds. There could be a few sprinkles this morning and during pre-race ceremonies. Once we get the race started I think we can definitely get to half way and there is even a good chance we get the race in but I do caution there is a lot of green on the radar west and southwest of Dover and as some of that rain passes by it will be awfully close. We will just have to keep an eye on radar through the afternoon and NASCAR crews will have to prepare for the possibility that a light shower or two could cause delays during the race.
