Allan McNish Le Mans Crash Was Terrifying, But Could Have Been Much Worse

Allan McNish had a tremendous, scary crash at the 24 Hours of Le Mans today in France, with his Audi getting airborne and nearly crossing a barrier where racing photographers stood close by.

McNish, 41, is one of the world's best sports car drivers and was attempting to pass a lower-class vehicle in the first hour of Le Mans when the two cars made contact.

Check below the jump to see the video of this unbelievably frightening crash:

After skirting across the gravel trap – which appeared to do little to slow the car down – McNish got airborne and smashed into a tire barrier. Looking at the replay, McNish's car actually crossed the wall and was headed for the photographers when the car magically came back into the racing area.

McNish, incredibly, was able to climb from the car – and there were no immediate reports of injuries to any spectators.

We're guessing some of those photographers will have nightmares, though. Especially the guy who was chased by a tire.
