Kevin Harvick, Inc. announced Wednesday it would merge its NASCAR Nationwide Series program with Richard Childress Racing for the 2012 season.
RCR will field two cars in the Nationwide Series, with current KHI driver Elliott Sadler piloting the No. 2 Chevrolet and various Sprint Cup Series drivers filling the seat of the No. 33 Chevrolet.
Kevin and DeLana Harvick will still be "very active" in the program, according to a team press release, and the move was made to benefit both the on-track performance and off-track sponsorship opportunity.
"When Kevin and DeLana decided they were interested in consolidating operations, it made sense to merge our efforts," Richard Childress said. "RCR is committed to the Nationwide Series as part of our overall team and driver development efforts. This move will continue the close collaborative effort RCR and KHI have enjoyed for the past 10 years."
A few weeks ago at Bristol, Harvick indicated KHI would have a different look moving forward. While part of the puzzle has come together, it is still unclear what changes will come to the team's Camping World Truck Series program.
