NASCAR Fontana Race Day Weather Update 2012: Halfway Is Now In Play

The toughest thing for a meteorologist to do is stare at the radar and realize his forecast is wrong.

Over the last four hours, the rain to the west of Auto Club Speedway has been slow to move east. As of 1 p.m. EDT, the rain wasn't even in Los Angeles – which is roughly 40 miles away – and the rain has been moving an estimated speed of around 10 mph. This opens up a window of an hour – maybe more – if the rain to the west doesn't increase in area or doesn't speed up.

Because there is now a legitimate window of time to go racing this afternoon, I think we have a 50-60 percent chance we get to halfway and anytime after that is bonus. Remember one lap past halfway makes this race official and no need to race on Monday.
