On a typical week, no one can come close to topping the noise for Dale Earnhardt Jr. or Kyle Busch during pre-race driver introductions.
But the combination of NASCAR royalty and a country music star nearly did just that on Sunday at Martinsville Speedway.
Richard Petty and Trace Adkins, who have an ongoing "battle" to decide which headache powder – Goody's or BC – is better, were introduced together prior to Sunday's Sprint Cup Series race and received a huge roar.
It was almost enough to topple Earnhardt Jr. and Busch, but ultimately the Petty/Adkins duo fell short.
Here's how we calculate the "Gluckometer," and here's the top 10 from Martinsville:
| Driver | dB | Type of Noise | Comment | |||
| 1 | Dale Earnhardt Jr. | 87.4 | Cheers | Like a rock star | ||
| 2 | Kyle Busch | 87.1 | Boos | Fans still mad for...what? | ||
| 3 | R. Petty/T. Adkins | 86.7 | Cheers | Combo received thunderous cheer | ||
| 4 | Jeff Gordon | 85.6 | Cheers | 7-time M'ville winner | ||
| 5 | Carl Edwards | 85.1 | Mostly cheers | Louder reaction than usual | ||
| 6 | Tony Stewart | 84.9 | Mix | Usually gets all cheers | ||
| 7 | Jimmie Johnson | 84.8 | Boos | Negative reception for JJ | ||
| 8 | Kevin Harvick | 84.3 | Mix | Sounded like 50-50 split | ||
| 9 | Kasey Kahne | 84.2 | Cheers | Pole-sitter | ||
| 10 | Denny Hamlin | 83.0 | Mix | Virginia driver |
