Indy 500 2012: Sebastian Saavedra Fastest On Sunday

Stay connected with SB Nation

Sunday was just the second day of a full seven days of practice at the 2012 Indianapolis 500, but young Colombian Sebastian Saavedra will be happy with his car early in the race's preparation process. The Andretti Motorsports driver, who qualified for the 2010 race at just 19 years old, turned in the fastest lap during Sunday's practice. The off-and-on IndyCar Series driver and Indy Lights regular was happy with the day.

"It's a great start to the month of May. Since the beginning, we knew we had a fast car ... It gives you a lot of confidence having an Andretti car behind you. At the end of the day, we just went out with our teammates to run in traffic and try to understand the car. No one understands how much turbulence there's going to be running behind someone."

Saavedra's teammates Ryan Hunter-Reay, James Hinchcliffe, Marco Andretti and Ana Beatriz finished Sunday in sixth, ninth, 18th and 25th respectively.
