The 2012 edition of the Indianapolis 500 is still just over a week away, but Saturday was of the utmost importance. Drivers attempted to qualify for the race on Pole Day and challenge for pole position in the most well-known IndyCar race in the world.
The Associated Press reports that a pair of Brazilian drivers have been tearing up the track during practice laps before the qualifying actually begins. Helio Castroneves posted the fastest practice lap this week with a speed of 227.774 mph on Saturday morning. The second-fastest lap was by Ana Beatriz, who had a lap of 226.187 mph. Both drivers have to be considered favorites to take the pole in the official qualifying.
Third-fastest for the week was a teammate of Castroneves, Ryan Briscoe, who managed 226.027.
