NASCAR Daytona Race Day Weather Forecast 2012: Hit Or Miss Showers

Showers and storms have been close to Daytona International Speedway the last two days but NASCAR managed to miss out on the rain. Hoping the luck doesn't run out tonight for the Coke Zero 400 NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series Race.

The forecast remains the same for today, hot and humid with hit or miss afternoon showers and storms. This is very typical weather for Florida weather in July. Highs will once again get into the low 90s later this afternoon. As the land heats up faster than the surrounding water, sea breezes begin to form. This sea breeze and other boundaries cause those pop up afternoon showers and storms to form.

I expect us to see more of what we've seen the last two days, with showers and storms popping up near and possibly over Daytona International Speedway. The major concern with any shower or storm forming over the track this afternoon is their history of being nearly stationary after they form. This means a shower could produce a steady rain for a hour or longer. Will have my radar up and running for this evening - Click Here.

My forecast for tonight's NASCAR Sprint Cup Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway is calling for warm and muggy conditions at the start of the race, temperatures will be in the mid 80s. Showers and storms popping up this afternoon will have to be watched as they form during the late afternoon hours. If a rain showers were to form or move over the track, I don't see a scenario where the race is rained out, just a small possibility of a delay. The likelihood for rain causing a delay this evening is low, less than twenty percent.
