NASCAR releases 2014 Whelen Modified Tour schedules

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour teams from the North and South will come together during Daytona Speedweeks in February before beginning their own regular season schedules.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified and Southern Modified Tour 2014 schedules were announced Saturday afternoon during Champions Week in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Both tours will converge for a non-points event in February at the UNOH Battle at the Beach. For the second straight year, the race on the .4-mile superstretch oval of Daytona International Speedway will take place on Tuesday evening during Speedweeks.

From there, both tours continue on their traditional schedules similar to previous seasons. The Southern Modified Tour begins with its first of six visits to Caraway Speedway in March. Six races in the first seven weeks will be followed by a short break, as normal with the start of Bowman Gray Stadium's weekly season. The Tour makes their annual appearance at the Winston-Salem track on August 2nd, and will conclude the season at the inner quarter-mile at Charlotte Motor Speedway to determine the champion for the third straight year.

The Whelen Modified Tour, based in New England, will begin with the annual Icebreaker at Thompson Speedway, the first of three visits to the .625-mile Connecticut facility. Nearby Stafford Motor Speedway will host four events beginning with the annual Spring Sizzler. The Tour will make headlines on the national level at New Hampshire Motor Speedway during both NASCAR Sprint Cup Series once again.

New for 2014 will be a non-points event at New Hampshire in July, which will be a 25-lap race with former champions, winners, and 2013 Rookies of the Year for each tour invited in what should be a spectacular shootout.

Both tours unite one more time at Bristol Motor Speedway the Wednesday night supporting the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event.

Altogether, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will feature 14 points races and the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will have 15.

The Ranting and Raving blog will provide on-site coverage of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour next season, starting with the second annual UNOH Battle at the Beach from Daytona International Speedway. Modified reporter Rob Blount will spearhead the new section on the website.
