The 55th running of the Dayton 500 is almost upon us.
On Sunday afternoon, the Great American Race will get underway in Florida as the 2013 Daytona 500 shifts another NASCAR season into gear.
This Daytona will make history the second the green flag is waved, as Danica Patrick will be starting from the pole position, becoming the first woman ever to do so at the famed racetrack. Jeff Gordon in is the second position behind Patrick, followed by Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and Greg Biffle to round out the top five.
Gordon is seeking his fourth career Dayton 500 victory lap. The record for most wins of this race all-time is owned by Richard Petty, who won an astonishing seven times, the last coming in 1981 in his famous No. 43 car.
The glory of Daytona has eluded some of the very best, including Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace and Dick Trickle, and most recently Tony Stewart, who starts 13th. He looks to change that Sunday.
