Despite a rain out of qualifying on Saturday afternoon at the Talladega SuperSpeedway in Alabama, the race itself is still scheduled to take place on Sunday.
The weather down south has been treacherous all weekend, with rain coming down in sheets. However, the weather has been respectable enough thus far for NASCAR officials to keep the race on the docket for the time being.
Talladega is one of the most historic venues for racing. NASCAR races have been running there since 1969, with one family in particular dominating the proceedings.
The Earnhardt's have won 15 races at Talladega, including Dale Earnhardt Sr. winning a record 10 times at the SuperSpeedway. Dale Jr. has won five times including a stretch from 2001-03 when he won four consecutive races.
The Aaron's 499 -- the race being run at the SuperSpeedway -- has been won by Brad Keselowski two of the past four seasons, including in 2012.
