NASCAR points standings 2013: Jimmie Johnson still leads Sprint Cup race

Jeremy Brevard-US PRESSWIRE

Jimmie Johnson is once again atop this week's NASCAR Sprint Cup standings, but the field behind him is getting tighter.

Jimmie Johnson still sits atop the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup points standings, but many of his biggest competitors inched closer after Johnson finished ninth in Sunday's Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway. With 610 points, Johnson pulled away slightly from second place Carl Edwards, who finished 21st in Kentucky. Third place Clint Bowyer moved to 41 points behind the leader with a third place finish, however, and winner Matt Kenseth is currently 82 points behind in fifth.

Johnson's lead is still healthy. He will need a series of poor performances before he is in any real danger of tumbling from the top of the heap. The season is only roughly half over, however, so there is still time for other drivers to do some damage.

You can head over to NASCAR.com for the full standings. Here's the current top ten in the Sprint Cup points standings.

1) Jimmie Johnson
2) Carl Edwards -38
3) Clint Bowyer -41
4) Kevin Harvick -66
5) Matt Kenseth -82
6) Dale Earnhardt Jr. -98
7) Kyle Busch -110
8) Martin Truex, Jr. -120
9) Greg Biffle -121
10) Joey Logano -131
