The truck Norm Benning memorably raced two weeks ago at Eldora Speedway is up for sale on eBay.
The Mudsummer Classic was the first NASCAR national dirt track race in 43 years and in the Last Chance Qualifier, Benning secured the final transfer spot into the main event by doggedly fending off Clay Greenfield. His efforts included bouncing off the wall several times and taking the checkered flag sideways.
Adding to the "Days of Thunder"-esque nature of the night, the 61-year-old Benning gave Greenfield the finger on the cooldown lap. And when he rolled into the pits Benning was greeted by track owner Tony Stewart who had a special message for him.
"He told me I singlehandedly made the show a success," Benning told SB Nation.
The proceedings made Benning a popular figure and his No. 57 truck a hot commodity, so he decided to place his ride up for auction. There is a reserve, and as of Thursday night 16 bids been placed with the current price at $5,100.
"There are a lot of people with a lot more attachment to it than me; they enjoyed seeing it get beat up," Benning said. "People tell me it should be in a museum and they wanted to buy it so here is their chance. I have no attachment to it."
