NASCAR just can not catch a break when it comes to the weather this season. Only two race weekends this season have been rain free, Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Auto Club Speedway. Unfortunately the rain theme for NASCAR continues this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway.
Weather is not a problem for this afternoon at Texas Motor Speedway, the sky will be sunny to mostly sunny with a slight breeze out of the northwest between 10 and 15 mph. Temperatures will be pleasant reaching the upper 60s in the afternoon. Weather for the Nationwide race will remain nice with fair conditions and temperatures in the low 60s.
Saturday looks mostly dry for Sprint Cup practice and qualifying. It will be mostly cloudy and there is a slight chance of a few showers or thunderstorms developing through out the day. Most of the day should be dry it just depends on when, where and if any rain forms.
Sunday is the wettest day of the weekend. The combination of a weak storm system moving through Texas and moisture streaming in from the Gulf of Mexico will make Sunday a wet day. Most of the rain will occur during the afternoon and then start to diminish heading into the evening and nighttime hours. The question is, can NASCAR race on Sunday?
Given what we've seen at Daytona and Bristol this season when the forecast called for rain, NASCAR found a way to race in prime time Sunday night. Texas Motor Speedway has lights and if the rain starts to break up or even end during the late afternoon and evening, then the Sprint Cup race could run Sunday night. It all comes down to timing and right now I give the odds of racing sometimes Sunday (even if it is Sunday night) around 50%.
