The Furniture Row Racing hauler carrying the cars of driver Erik Jones was involved in a hit-and-run traffic accident early Thursday morning just outside of Las Vegas, the team said in a statement.
The hauler was approximately 15 miles from Las Vegas Motor Speedway when a car carrying two occupants pulled off the shoulder and back onto the highway, directly into the path of the transporter truck. The incident occurred shortly after midnight.
In the accident, the hauler sustained front-end damage, requiring the team to rent a backup transporter to take Jones’ cars along with support equipment to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., the site of Sunday’s Monster Energy Cup Series race.
No one was injured in the accident, and Jones’ cars and the hauler’s contents were not damaged, according to a FRR statement.
"We're all very relieved no one was injured in the incident," FRR president Joe Garone said. "There was substantial damage to the tractor, but everything in the trailer was checked out thoroughly and is OK."
The driver of the passenger vehicle fled the scene but was later apprehended and arrested by the Nevada Highway Patrol, the team said.
