Most years, even when the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft is obvious, everyone at least pretends to have some kind of debate. That's not the case this year, with Anthony Davis being the most clear-cut No. 1 overall pick since LeBron James. The NBA Draft lottery was really the Anthony Davis lottery, and the New Orleans Hornets came up as the big winners.
Davis has plenty of work to do offensively to become an All-Star level player in the NBA, but his natural talent and defensive skills are off the charts.
Simply put, draft picks don't get much safer than Davis. He doesn't have any medical concerns, and if he stays healthy he projects to be a similar player to Marcus Camby or Tyson Chandler, even if he doesn't develop his offensive game significantly. Davis has shown brief flashes of offensive brilliance, however, and he could become a much better all-around player than Camby or Chandler with the right coaching.
