NBA Draft Rumors: Deron Williams Has No Interest Playing For Rockets, According To Report

Stay connected with SB Nation

The Houston Rockets' maneuvering for additional draft picks is being done to pursue Dwight Howard in a trade, according to multiple reports. Howard has no interest in staying in Houston, according to reports, but the Rockets believe they could keep him if they find another star to acquire in a deal.

However, if we get to that point, it doesn't look like Deron Williams qualifies. The Brooklyn Nets' guard, who is a free agent after the season, likely will not add Houston to his wish list, even if the Rockets land Howard. Via Sports Illustrated's Sam Amick:

Source close to Brooklyn PG Deron Williams says Houston not likely to be added to his free agency wish list even if the Rockets get Dwight Howard. Williams is focused on the Nets or Dallas, his hometown team. If Williams felt differently and headed for Houston, and Howard signed the extension that no one thinks he'd ever sign, I'm guessing Rockets GM Daryl Morey would then be given a 27-year extension of his own.

It's unclear if this would stop the Rockets' pursuit of Howard, because even if they fail, they'll be able to begin rebuilding rather than being stuck as a mediocre team.
