Deron Williams Will Have Wrist Surgery After Dealing With Injury All Season

Deron Williams will have season-ending surgery on his wrist, the New Jersey Nets announced Friday. Williams has battle a sprained wrist all season; the Nets said in their statement that the surgery will clean up bone fragments and scar tissue.

Williams played just 12 games with the Nets due to the nagging injury and New Jersey's deep deficit in the standings. When the team acquired Williams in February, it needed to essentially play perfect ball to get back in the playoff race. The team is devastating shallow at small forward and behind Brook Lopez and Kris Humphries up front, though, and the Nets couldn't get enough momentum to challenge for the No. 8 seed.

That said, Williams played well despite shooting an awful 35 percent from the floor in those dozen games. He averaged 12.8 assists, and the Nets went 4-8. Unfortunately, New Jersey gave up all of its draft picks and trade assets to get Williams; to build around him and Lopez, the team will need to rely on trades and free agency. Humphries is on track to become a free agent this offseason.

Deron Williams Will Miss More Games With Nagging Wrist Injury

Post written by SB Nation's Michael Katz.

WASHINGTON -- Deron Williams is out of the lineup for the Nets because of a lingering injury to his right wrist. Williams will sit out at least next three games, but it could be longer.

"Just don't know how much three games is going to do so I just got to wait -- wait and see how it feels," Williams said before New Jersey's 1 p.m. tip-off against the Wizards.

The injury has given him problems lately. As coach Avery Johnson mentioned before the game, Williams probably wouldn't have shot 8 percent from the field against Chicago on March 13 if he were healthy. He has shot just 9 for 26 over his last three games.

Williams suffered the initial injury as a member of the Utah Jazz back in January. The nagging nature of the injury likely led to the Nets to be extra sensitive. That and the fact that franchise has an eye toward next season.

"I think the future is bright here, and that's what everybody is looking forward to," Williams said. "There's no reason to -- not saying we can't make the playoffs, but it would be a stretch."

Williams caught himself, but the message was clear. The focus in New Jersey is on 2011-12.

But what about this year? Does Williams' gut tell him he'll back? Well, he wouldn't exactly say:

Deron Williams' Wrist Injury Likely To Sideline Him For At Least One More Game

The Utah Jazz have been struggling recently, so it's a bad time for star Deron Williams to get hurt. Williams has already missed two straight games due to a strained tendon in his wrist, and he is doubtful for Monday's game against the Charlotte Bobcatsaccording to Brian T. Smith of the Salt Lake Tribune

Williams suffered the injury last Wednesday, during a 112-105 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. He played through the injury then, but has sat out the team's two games this weekend. The Jazz are 1-1 without Williams, defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday and falling to the Golden State Warriors on Sunday.

Prior to the game against Golden State, Williams said the injury was getting worse, not better. Via Steve Luhm of the Salt Lake Tribune.

After the Jazz's morning shootaround, Williams said, "It's actually worse today. I did some shooting [Saturday] and I shouldn't have done that because it's a little more sore today."

Williams is averaging 21.9 points and 9.4 assists for the Jazz, who have lost seven of their past eight games.
