Nets Could Chase Nene, Tyson Chandler To Pair With Brook Lopez, Says Report

The New Jersey Nets aim to add a top-tier center like Nene or Tyson Chandler via free agency, according to a report.

Oct 7, 2011 - From the invaluable NetsDaily comes a report from Bergen Record writer Al Iannazzone, who says that the New Jersey Nets plan to chase a top-flight big man in free agency ... once the NBA lockout ends.

Iannazzone reports that the Nets have their sights set on Nene and Tyson Chandler, with the idea that Brook Lopez would shift to power forward. Last season, coach Avery Johnson went with Lopez at center and Kris Humphries at power forward; Hump is a free agent, and likely expects a good payday. Either Nene or Chandler would take on more payroll than Humphries, but each has a stronger reputation and all-around game.

Lopez had an offensive resurgence once the Nets acquired All-Star guard Deron Williams from the Utah Jazz. The Nets need to convince Williams to sign an extension with the club or sign a new deal in July 2012. The Nets are also one of the teams that will almost assuredly insert themselves in real or invented Dwight Howard trade talks all season long.

A previous version of this story misidentified the newspaper for which Iannazzone works. We regret the error.

Thanks

Been so long since we’ve talked about actual NBA rumors. Also, I can’t read.
