The Boston Celtics are not a deep team as is, and they may need to open their 2011-12 season without one of their main guys. Paul Pierce sat out practice on Tuesday with a heel injury, and Doc Rivers said there's a chance Pierce will miss the team's season opener against the New York Knicks on Christmas Day. Paul Pierce won't play tomorrow and Doc Rivers said he is concerned that Pierce may not be available for the regular season opener.
Pierce will not play in the Celtics' final preseason game on Wednesday against the Toronto Raptors at home. Rivers said he doesn't think Pierce's injury is a serious long-term issue, but it is a concern in the short term.
