The Sacramento Kings appear prepared to sign Chuck Hayes just four days after the team voided a four-year deal with the veteran big man, according to multiple reports.
Kings coach Paul Westphal told the media at the team's practice facility on Thursday that Hayes would be travelling back to Sacramento on Friday for unspecified reasons. The Kings' players, though, appeared to believe Hayes would be signing a new contract and joining the team in time for Monday's season opener against the L.A. Lakers.
The Kings had signed Hayes to a four-year, $21.3 million contract on the first day of free agency, but aberrations in Hayes' stress echo test kept the forward out of action. On Monday, the team voided Hayes' contract. On Wednesday, Hayes underwent a spate of tests at the renowned Cleveland Clinic, and on Thursday his agent announced that doctors had cleared him to play.
