Paul Pierce Injury: Boston Captain Doubtful For Celtics-Knicks Game On Christmas

Paul Pierce is doubtful for the Boston Celtics' game against the New York Knicks on Christmas Day, according to head coach Doc Rivers. Pierce has been dealing with a heel injury throughout the preseason. Rivers said that he does not expect the veteran forward to play in the team's season opener.

"I think [Saturday], we'll know better," Rivers said. "Paul may wake up and say, 'Coach, I wanna go.' I can tell you this, it's very unlikely he'll start if he plays. I don't think that'll happen. If he does play, he'll play 15 to 20 minutes but right now, I don't see him playing."

Rivers added that Sasha Pavlovic would likely start in place of Pierce, as he did Wednesday day in a preseason game against the Toronto Raptors. Marquis Daniels should also see minutes.
