Kobe Bryant scored eight points in the third quarter to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 69-68 third-quarter lead over the Chicago Bulls. That outburst allowed the Lakers to overcome a seven-point halftime deficit. Bryant now has 22 points, five assists and six rebounds in the game.
Derrick Rose did his part to at least keep the Bulls close. The reigning NBA MVP equalled Bryant's third quarter scoring and now has 18 points to go along with four assists.
The Bulls' problem was that they didn't get much else from anybody else. The Bulls got only four points from the rest of the team and generally looked like an entirely different team in the third quarter. They didn't score in the quarter's final 2:29 and only scored two points over the quarter's final 4:00.

If you were wondering about Kobe Bryant's injured wrist and whether it would hold up to the rigors of a full game, worry not. Kobe's been fine throughout the Los Angeles Lakers' Christmas Day matchup with the Chicago Bulls and currently leads all scorers with 18 points. Oh, and he can still dunk!
Looks fine to me!

Derrick Rose continued to show why he's the defending NBA MVP during the first half of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Chicago Bulls took a 56-49 lead into halftime with Rose leading the way. Rose has scored 10 points and dished out four assists so far in his showdown with Kobe Bryant.
It is worth pointing out that Bryant had a pretty decent half himself. Bryant scored 14 points on 6 of 10 shooting to lead all scorers. Among his highlights was this little number in which he pump faked one defender, and then hit a jumper with almost no room in which to get the shot off.
But the half really belonged to Rose, who showcased what has made him such a good player. Not only did he share the team lead in scoring, but he did it on 4 of 5 shooting, including going 2 of 2 from behind the arc.

Carlos Boozer is not exactly known as a leaper. But, then, neither is Derek Fisher. So, it was still a bit surprising to see the 6-foot-1 Fisher block the 6-foot-9 Boozer without really even getting off the ground. Here's the video:
It's not exactly Kevin Johnson dunking on Hakeem Olajuwon's head, but it's still a nice feather in the cap for the vertically challenged among us. If you feel like living it over and over in a more abbreviated format, we've also got a handy little gif for you, too:
As you can see, it's really more about Boozer being a little careless with the ball more than Fisher making some athletic feat, but that kinda just makes it funnier. It's almost like Troy Murphy possessed Boozer for a moment.

Well, you can't say Kobe Bryant isn't trying to be interesting. The Los Angeles Lakers star certainly wins the award for most unique shoes on Christmas Day. I can't decide whether I love or despise them, but I can't say I'm neutral. I've been staring at them for a solid 15 minutes and I still don't even know. That shade of green is at least a cool throwback to my childhood, since they don't put that color on anything anymore. Here are Kobe's Nikes that he'll be wearing today.

Picture of the sneakers comes via NBC's Darren Rovell on WhoSay. I think that if I saw someone wearing these, I'd compliment them on how cool their shoes were, but I wouldn't be caught dead wearing them myself. Does that even make sense?

The Chicago Bulls look to pick up a signature win on opening day as they face the L.A. Lakers. Kobe Bryant is expected to play, but Andrew Bynum definitely will not.

The Bulls visit the Lakers in the third of five games on the NBA's opening day, where Derrick Rose begins his MVP title defense and Kobe deals with a wrist injury.
