Tyrone Corbin Likely To Take Over As Utah Jazz Coach In Wake Of Jerry Sloan Resignation

Stay connected with SB Nation

Tyrone Corbin is expected to take over as the head coach of the Utah Jazz in the wake of the Thursday resignation of Jerry Sloan, according to a report.

Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Jazz players told friends before the team's 5 PM Eastern press conference at which Sloan's resignation will be announced that they expect Corbin, a retired journeyman forward, to take over. Phil Johnson, who has been Sloan's top assistant in Utah since 1988, was also expected to resign on Thursday.

Corbin has been a hot name in coaching circles for a couple of seasons. In his seventh year as a Jazz assistant, Corbin drew heavy interest from the New Orleans Hornets and Atlanta Hawks last summer. He is said to have great relationships with current Jazz players, and a strong rapport with the media. He has never been a head coach at any level. Before joining the Jazz, he worked in the New York Knicks' front office.
