Shaquille O’Neal, who’s been out indefinitely for weeks now, will return to the Boston Celtics either “Sunday or Tuesday,” said team president Danny Ainge on Boston’s WEEI radio. That rules Shaq out of Thursday’s road game against the San Antonio Spurs and Friday’s trip to play the Atlanta Hawks, setting him up to return against either the Detroit Pistons or Philadelphia 76ers at home.
Doc Rivers had expressed concern that O’Neal’s achilles tendon injury could affect the team’s playoff run, but it sounds like they aren’t planning on putting too much pressure on the big guy. Ainge said he worked out with O’Neal just before going on air. If you can weather a workout with Ainge, you can putter through a few regular season basketball games, right?
Celtics Blog is skeptical, saying, “I’ll believe it when I see it,” an appropriate remark capably used to express skepticism.
