"It would definitely be something to think about," Chris Paul told the Associated Press when asked about the possibility of joining Michael Jordan and the Charlotte Bobcats in 2012. "But right now it's all about trying to win a championship here with the Hornets."
"I think guys do and will want to play for MJ," he added. "Who better to learn from?"
Indeed, just look at his trail-blazing fashion.
And Chris Paul's from the Charlotte area, you know, so it would be a homecoming for him. But before the rumors get started, let's take a step back and look at exactly what he said.
Just for the record, "it would definitely be something to think about" is what you say when someone asks you do to something you don't want to do, but it's still a long ways away from happening. Like a few months ago, if my boss had asked, "Hey, we're thinking of sending you to the WNBA Draft this spring. Any interest?"
— "It would definitely be something to think about."
Or my girlfriend. "Hey, want to take a ballroom dancing class? The next session starts in the fall."
— "It would definitely be something to think about."
My parents, back when I was in college. "Hey, have you thought about law school?"
— "It would definitely be something to think about."
Or if somebody asked me if I wanted to join a broken down website that nobody reads, but the owner of the site is a personal hero of mine who I don't want to embarrass.
— "It would definitely be something to think about."
Or perhaps, "I think guys do and will want to [work for that site]." Because hey, people that are not me might love that opportunity! ... Anyway, you get the point. Maybe CP's serious about Charlotte, and if he gets injured next season and bigger names like the Nets and Knicks opt for someone else, then by all means, Charlotte's a strong possibility.
Until then, let's not talk ourselves into a CP3 homecoming just yet. Only Charles Oakley loves Jordan that much. Besides, if he's going to wind up on a team like Charlotte, why leave New Orleans?
