Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks put Saturday's collapse behind them in Game 5, as the German sharpshooter scored 25 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Dallas to a 93-82 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers in this Western Conference quarterfinal series.

Dallas held Portland to 19 points in the fourth quarter, one more than Brandon Roy scored himself during Game 4's final quarter.

Tyson Chandler finished with his first double-double of the postseason, scoring 14 points and grabbing 20 rebounds. He also kept a lid on LaMarcus Aldridge, who was held to a series-low 12 points.

Dirk Nowitzki scored 11 of his 25 points in the third quarter, when the Mavs stretched their lead from one to 12 points.

Jason Kidd's14 assists made up for his poor shooting and Jason Terry scored 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting.

Dallas blew a 23-point lead in Game 4's 84-82 loss, falling back into a tie in the series. But Monday's frontcourt performance and shutdown defense in the fourth quarter has the Mavs headed back to Portland holding a 3-2 series edge.

Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday night.
