Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks put Saturday's collapse behind them in Game 5, as the German sharpshooter scored 25 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Dallas to a 93-82 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers in this Western Conference quarterfinal series.
While Dirk gets the usual credit, the player of the game for Dallas was really Tyson Chandler, who scored 14 points and pulled in 20 rebounds (13 offensive).
Dallas blog Mavs Moneyball still found plenty more of praise to pass around.
Doing his point guard voo doo magic was Jason Kidd, who registered more assists (14) than the entire Portland team (13). Shawn Marion contributed 14 points and four steals, and Jason Terry quietly scored a solid 20 points off the bench to round out the list of players in double figures.
Blaxers fans don't want you to get any ideas. "The score is not really representative; the Blazers never really challenged in the second half of this game, as no player ever took control," says Blazer's Edge. Of course, they also pointed out certain statistical discrepancies on the evening:
Off Reb: 20-9 Dallas
FT's: 35-19 Dallas
