The Dallas Mavericks eliminated the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night with a 103-96 win at the Rose Garden. The Blazers made a run in the fourth quarter, propelled by an outstanding performance from Gerald Wallace, but ran out of gas and time as the Mavericks bled out the clock and wore Portland down.
Dirk Nowitzki had a double-double, finishing with a game-high 33 points and 11 rebounds. Jason Terry was outstanding off the bench again with 22 points and eight assists. Shawn Marion was also in double-figures with 16 points. Jason Kidd had six assists but scored just seven points.
Gerald Wallace led the Blazers with 32 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. LaMarcus Aldridge added 24 points and Wesley Matthews scored 19 points. Brandon Roy led the way off the bench with nine points. Andre Miller had a team-high four assists to go with his five points.
Dallas advances to the second round, where the Los Angeles Lakers await. The Lakers eliminated the New Orleans Hornets on Thursday to close out the best-of-seven series.
