Early on in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, it's become obvious that nothing is going to come easy. This may change as the teams tire, but both defenses have been absolutely suffocating to start the first quarter. Dirk Nowitzki has been relatively effective, scoring four of the Dallas Mavericks' five points halfway through the first quarter, but Joel Anthony has caused him to miss a couple of shots.
Both teams are shooting well under 30 percent at the moment, which is actually more of a testament to the two defenses than any kind of poor offensive play. LeBron James and Chris Bosh have all of the Heat's 10 points, and James will have a chance to complete a three-point play after the break. At the first media timeout, with 5:30 remaining in the first quarter, the Heat lead the Mavs 10-5.
