The Mavericks' First Half Domination Of The Lakers In Game 4, By The Numbers

Stay connected with SB Nation

So the Lakers, two-time defending NBA champions, just got outscored by the Dallas Mavericks' bench in the first half of an elimination playoff game. Let's examine the statistical carnage of Game 4's incredible first half.

The Mavericks' three-point shooting was fantastic, and Dallas tied an NBA playoffs record with 11 threes in a half.

Jason Terry made six of seven threes in the first half, tying his career playoff high. His effective field goal percentage is 1.000.

As mentioned, the Mavericks' bench outscored the Lakers, 40-39, in the first half. Terry has more points than any Lakers starter; Terry and Peja Stojakovic have combined to equal the entire Lakers starting lineup. The Mavericks' bench's effective field goal percentage is 1.026.

The Mavericks' effective field goal percentage as a team is .773.

The Mavericks, through one half, would be fourth all-time in three-point percentage in a playoff game by any team with 10+ threes.

As Terry noted in an on-court interview, the Mavericks often have three of the most prolific shooters in NBA history on the floor. What you may not know is that those three players are Jason Kidd, third in NBA history for made threes, Stojakovic (fourth), and Terry (eighth.) Missing from that list: Dirk Nowitzki, maybe the finest shooter in the NBA.

Nowitzki had just eight points in the first half, and made just four of seven shots. And yet his plus-minus was a staggering +26.
