Mark Cuban has always been the kind of sports owner that wants nothing to do with tradition. In keeping with that reputation, Cuban suggested that he would give his players something other than the customary championship rings after the Mavericks became the 2011 NBA Champions.
"You've seen it before, there's guys who pick up the sweats and towels and they have these big, blingy rings, and I'm like, "Rings are done," Cuban said.
"It's time to take it to the next level."
Championship rings are pretty cool, so the next level up from those has to be pretty amazing for it to make sense. Traditional clothing is obviously out, because it's just clothing. Championship tattoos are a possibility, though the downside is that it'd be hard for DeShawn Stevenson to find room on his body to participate. There's also probably some sort of one-off Cuban could pay for easily, like a vacation or something.
Personally, I prefer this:
Could you imagine Dirk carrying around a championship belt, a la Rasheed Wallace? I can, and I think it would be awesome.
