Kendrick Perkins' Teammate D.J. White Explains Perkins' Side After Arrest

Kendrick Perkins is still not talking about his arrest last Saturday morning for alleged public intoxication and disorderly conduct, but he is working hard to clear his name. He had his publicist sent a statement to Darnell Mayberry of the Oklahoman, and he has also evidently found a person to speak on his behalf in Oklahoma City Thunder teammate D.J. White.

Here's the statement from Perkins' publicist.

"Although these may be misdemeanors, it's a big deal to Kendrick," said Denise White, a publicist for Perkins, in an emailed statement to The Oklahoman. "He's not happy about how things happened that evening and feels like the police were out of hand."

White, meanwhile, said that the incident was blown out of proportion by overaggressive police officers. The public intoxication charge, he said, is false, because Perkins didn't drink. He also said that the disorderly conduct stems from an incident where Perkins trying to collect money from a club manager for a deal they struck for an after-party and the club manager refusing. The club manager got physical, Perkins defended himself and Stephen Jackson intervened, according to White's account.

White also said that Perkins was taken to the hospital on Thursday night after fainting during a Dominos game.

Kendrick Perkins Arrest Comes After 'Accident' At Stephen Jackson's Home On Thursday, According To Report

Kendrick Perkins was arrested early Saturday morning at fellow NBA player Stephen Jackson's home. Contrary to earlier reports, however, Jackson was not booked.

Perkins was reportedly booked at the Jefferson County jail on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct, according to CBS affiliate KFDM. The news station earlier reported that Jackson was arrested as well, though the newest reports indicate that the incident simply happened at his home and he was spared from another brush with the law.

Unfortunately for Perkins, a quiet big man for the Oklahoma City Thunder, he seems to be having quite a rough week while hanging out with Jackson in Texas. According to KFDM, Perkins had an "accident" at Jackson's home in Port Arthur late Thursday nigh and was treated for minor injuries before being released.

Perkins was in town helping out at a basketball camp with Jackson, something that would happen every summer, so this isn't exactly an issue that could have been prevented had their not been an NBA lockout. Still, it's sad to see.
