On the same day last week that his wife was found strangled in their Texas home, former NBA referee Troy Raymond shot and killed himself in a New Orleans hotel room.
The 46-year-old Raymond was considered a "person of interest" in the murder of Leslie Anderson Raymond, according to a Montgomery County, Texas law-enforcement official.
Officials are quick to point out that Troy Raymond was not an official suspect at the time of his death and the investigation is ongoing.
Troy Raymond's sister told investigators that the couple had been having marital problems and said he "needed to split up" with his wife.
Raymond was a referee in the NBA during the 2003-2004 season left after it was discovered he lied on his resume. He had claimed to have played on the Colorado national champion football team.
He recently refereed college basketball games for the Sun Belt Conference and Southland Conference, amongst others.
