Stay connected with SB Nation

The Los Angeles Clippers battled the Los Angeles Lakers in the final minutes of Wednesday night's game, but the Lakers pulled out the 96-91 victory. Not even Chris Paul's return to the court after a five-game absence was enough to tip the balance in favor of the Clippers.

Paul scored just four points in his return, but he did dish the ball out for 12 assists. He was just 2-of-8 from the field and missed all three three-pointers he attempted. Blake Griffin scored 26 points and fell short of a double-double with nine rebounds. The team had trouble getting to the line, attempting just 14 free throws (sinking nine).

The Lakers got on by with 24 points by Kobe Bryant and 23 points by Pau Gasol. Gasol rounded out his game with 10 rebounds and four assists. Bryant pulled down seven boards and doled the ball out for six assists. Metta World Peace distributed the ball for seven assists and grabbed five balls from around the glass.

The Clippers fell to 1-4 in the road and will host the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday. The Lakers, who ended a three-game losing streak with this victory, visit the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday
