Eric Gordon Injury: Hornets Guard Needs Knee Surgery, May Miss Six Weeks

New Orleans Hornets guard Eric Gordon is still being hampered by a knee injury and will now undergo surgery, the team announced on Monday night. Gordon has missed all but two games with a sore left knee, an injury he's been unable to recover from.

The news comes from Marc Spears of Yahoo!.

With six more weeks tacked onto the six weeks he's already missed, it's unlikely Gordon will make much of an impact for the Hornets at all this season. New Orleans continues to slump, with a 5-23 record on the year, and rushing Gordon back could do more harm to the young man's career than good. However, Gordon is set to become a free agent following the season, and may want to show he's back to health, or close, before the end of the year in hopes of generating interest as he hits the open market.

Eric Gordon Injury: Hornets Say Guard Out Another 3-6 Weeks

Eric Gordon will be out another 3-6 weeks with a right knee contusion, the New Orleans Hornets announced on Thursday. Gordon has not played since going 39 minutes in a loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Jan. 4. He has played just two games all year.

Despite his extremely limited minutes -- the only other game he played was the season-opener on Dec. 26 -- he has looked decent when he's played. He's averaging 21 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in those two games. The Hornets have gone 2-15 since opening the season with a victory.

Gordon was the prized acquisition in the trade that sent Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers and the Hornets have been trying to re-sign the guard. The team, which is league controlled, had offered Paul a four-year deal that he declined prior to Wednesday's deadline and he will now become a restricted free agent at the end of the season.

Eric Gordon Injury: Hornets Guard Out 2-3 Weeks With Knee

The Hornets announced Friday that guard Eric Gordon will be out for two to three weeks to rest his knee injury.

Gordon, the centerpiece of the package New Orleans received in the Chris Paul trade, returned after a four-game absence on Wednesday night against the 76ers but experienced swelling in his bruised right knee after the game.

Gordon began the season with soreness in his knee, which he told reporters on Wednesday he had bumped against Grant Hill in the Hornets season-opening win against the Suns. Gordon hit the game-winner in the closing seconds of that game, and has scored 20 points in each of his two games this season.

Here's the initial take from SB Nation's Hornets blog, At The Hive:

With Trevor Ariza still out with a groin injury, your projected starters on the wing tonight against a very good Denver team are Marco Belinelli and Al-Farouq Aminu. Yep.

Gordon has had a bit of trouble staying on the court during his young NBA career, including last season when he missed 24 games in March with a wrist injury.
