Chuck Hayes will miss 3-4 weeks with a dislocated shoulder suffered Thursday night against the Milwaukee Bucks, the Sacramento Kings announced Friday. Hayes went down after bumping into Bucks forward Drew Gooden with his arm extended during the second quarter.
The 3-4 week progress is slightly longer than the 2-3 week prognosis that Hayes gave following the game. His absence will open more minutes for Jason Thompson off the bench, as well as increase playing time for J.J. Hickson.
Hayes had been averaging 5.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game so far this season. His absence will perhaps be most felt on the defensive end, however, where the 6-6, 240-pound forward had a penchant for playing tough. It has been a topsy-turvy week for the Kings, who just fired head coach Paul Westphal.
