The Nuggets and Ty Lawson are getting closer to an agreement for a contract extension that would keep the point guard in Denver, according to a report from David Aldridge of NBA.com, as the Wednesday deadline to re-sign 2009 Draft picks is rapidly approaching.
If a deal is not reached by the deadline, Lawson would become a restricted free agent during the 2013 summer and be able sign offer sheets from other teams that the Nuggets would be allowed to match.
The No. 18 selection in the 2009 NBA Draft, Lawson was originally selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves before he was immediately traded to the Nuggets. After starting in just eight of 65 games as a rookie and 31 of 80 in his second season, Lawson started in each of the 61 games he played in during the 2012 season.
His 16.4 points per game led the team while he also added 6.6 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals.
