Matt Barnes suspended for 1 game after no-contest plea

Gary A. Vasquez-US PRESSWIRE

Los Angeles Clippers forward Matt Barnes has been suspended after pleading no contest for an arrest of threatening a police officer.

Los Angeles Clippers forward Matt Barnes will miss the season-opener on Wednesday against the Memphis Grizzlies after the NBA suspended him one game following a no-contest plea for a July arrest.

Barnes was arrested in Manhattan Beach after threatening a police officer who was attempting to arrest the 32 year old on a traffic warrant. Barnes was then charged with making a threat during the arrest and was soon released on bail:

TMZ.com released a video tape from a police car dashboard of Barnes directing a homophobic slur at a police officer during the arrest. Barnes later apologized and told ESPN that he was upset that he was being targeted by a specific police officer.

The Clippers signed the 6'7, 226 pound small forward on Sept. 14.

Barnes played last season with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he put up averages of 7.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. The nine-year NBA veteran out of UCLA has career averages of 7.3 points and 4.5 rebounds.
