The former Thunder star has agreed to a max contract that will make him the new face of the Rockets.
Three days after agreeing to a blockbuster trade that sent James Harden to Houston, the Rockets have agreed to a deal with the reigning Sixth Man of the Year that will make him the centerpiece of the franchise's rebuilding efforts going forward.
With Wednesday being the deadline to sign an extension, Houston gave Harden the maximum allowable five-year, $80 million contract, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
It was significantly more money than the last offer that was reportedly on the table from Oklahoma City, which was rumored to be somewhere around 4-years $52 million.
Harden, who had achieved stardom for his off-the-bench heroics for one of the most talented young teams in the NBA, will now have an entire franchise on his shoulders, one that has spent the last several years looking for superstar-type talent to replace Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming, who both had careers cut short due to injuries.
