Hornets vs. Spurs final score: Anthony Davis shines, Hornets lose to veteran Spurs, 99-95

The No. 1 draft pick Davis was solid from the line, but Tim Duncan and the Spurs prevailed on Wednesday night.

Anthony Davis scored 21 points in just 29 minutes of play, but the veteran play of the San Antonio Spurs prevailed in a 99-95 Spurs win over the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday night.

Davis shot 6-12 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds, and was also 9-9 from the free throw line on the night. But across from the rookie No. 1 draft pick was Tim Duncan, the top pick from 16 years ago. Duncan was 10-15 from the floor, scoring 24 points and pulling down 11 rebounds to help the Spurs earn a season-opening win.

Tony Parker increased his load with fellow veteran Manu Ginobili sidelined. Parker scored 23 points in 35 minutes, and also dished six assists. Kawhi Leonard added 19 points and seven rebounds for San Antonio, who outscored the Hornets 56-45 in the second half.

Al-Farouq Aminu added 17 points and seven rebounds for New Orleans, while point guard Greivis Vasquez handed out 13 assists in the loss.
