Steve Nash injury: Lakers PG 'hopeful' to play Friday

Stay connected with SB Nation

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash is optimistic that he'll be able to return for the team's next game. Dave McMenamin of ESPN Los Angeles reports that Nash is hopeful to play Friday against the Clippers. There is no structural damage to his shin, but it's more of a soreness situation, or possibly a bruise. Head coach Mike Brown said that Nash will be further evaluated on Thursday.

Nash ended up colliding with Blazers guard Damian Lillard and apparently bumped knees, which caused the shin injury. Here's video of the injury courtesy of CBS Sports.

Nash had to head back to the locker room after limping off the court. Nash played 15 minutes against Portland before getting injured, scoring two points on 1-of-3 shots while dishing out four assists.

Nash joins a list of Laker superstars who are nursing injuries. Dwight Howard is recovering from back surgery on a lower disc and Kobe Bryant is still nursing a sore foot.
