Mike Brown fired: Stan Van Gundy calls Lakers 'ridiculous'

Doug Pensinger

Van Gundy doesn't think the Lakers gave Brown much of a chance to succeed in Los Angeles this season.

It didn't take long for the formerly-employed, but currently still vocal Stan Van Gundy to voice his opinion in the Orlando Sentinel about the recent firing of Mike Brown as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. As Van Gundy put it, it was "the most ridiculous firing in the history of the NBA."

Van Gundy didn't stop his rant there, adding that the firing was "absurd", eventually questioning why the Lakers would bring Brown back in the first place.

"Why did they bring him back? They changed the entire staff, changed his offense, got two new players (Dwight Howard and Steve Nash), have had guys hurt since day 1 and gave him five games to get it going."

Van Gundy is still at home watching the games as he is no longer patrolling the sidelines of an NBA team after being let go by the Orlando Magic prior to this season. So that would make him a candidate for the new Lakers' vacancy he just ridiculed, right?

"I'm sure I'm at the top of their list."

At least Van Gundy hasn't lost his sense of humor. It didn't take him long to recognize the obvious brick wall that would stand between him and the Lakers' job with his former superstar in Orlando, Howard, now in Los Angeles.
