Boston Celtics' point guard Rajon Rondo will miss the team's game against the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night. Leandro Barbosa will get the start in Rondo's absence, according to Celtics' play-by-play man Sean Grande. Rondo injured his ankle in a win over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday.
The sixth-year veteran out of Kentucky is enjoying his best statistical season to date. Rondo is averaging 14.3 points and 12.7 assists per game – both career highs. Rondo's numbers are hampered by the game against Utah, where he played just 25 minutes before going down with the ankle injury. Rondo had posted a double-double in each of his first seven games before scoring just six points against the Jazz.
The Celtics have won three straight after starting the year just 2-3. The Nets are also riding a three-game winning streak and are 4-2 on the year.
Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
