Carmelo Anthony scored 20 points in the first quarter to lead the Knicks past the Hornets in a 102-80 victory.
Carmelo Anthony's big night helped lead the New York Knicks to a 102-80 victory over the New Orleans Hornets Tuesday night, keeping the Knicks' fast start to the 2012-13 season going and running their record to 8-1.
The Knicks sprinted out to an early lead, outscoring the Hornets 29-17 in the first quarter. Anthony, who finished the night with 29 points and six rebounds, came out firing for the Knicks, and scored 20 points in the first quarter alone.
The Hornets would draw down the Knicks' lead to just five at half behind strong second quarters from Austin Rivers and Ryan Anderson. Anderson finished the night with 15 points and eight rebounds, both of which were team-highs.
Out of the locker room, however, the Knicks were back in control as New York pulled away and didn't look back, outscoring the Hornets by 14 in the third quarter and three in the fourth to close out the victory.
The Knicks next travel to Texas to take on the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night, aiming to extend their hot start to the year.
