NBA 2012 schedule: Nets host Knicks in battle for New York

Bruce Bennett

Nearly a month after Hurricane Sandy threw a wrench in the plans, the Brooklyn Nets will finally host the New York Knicks at Barclays Center.

The Brooklyn Nets were supposed to open the season with a highly anticipated contest against the New York Knicks at the new Barclays Center. Hurricane Sandy threw a wrench into those plans, but the two teams will finally get the chance to square off on Monday night in Brooklyn.

The Nets and Knicks enter Monday's game on top of the standings in the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division. New York is 9-3, holding a one-game lead over 8-4 Brooklyn. The Nets have been dynamite at home this season, sporting a 6-1 record, including a fifth-consecutive home victory on Sunday against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Elsewhere, the Oklahoma City Thunder host the Charlotte Bobcats, who may be the surprise of the season. The Bobcats are 7-5 this year, matching their win total from all of last year.

The eight-game Monday slate finishes up with a matchup between Chris Paul and his former team when the New Orleans Hornets visit the Los Angeles Clippers. Star rookie Anthony Davis will be out with an ankle injury.
